Snowshoeing in the Dolomites: Tips from the Madonna di Campiglio Guides

An excursion with snowshoes, or "ciaspole" or "caspe" as our grandparents called them, in the company of the Alpine Guides of Madonna di Campiglio. These expert connoisseurs of the territory and its history will not only accompany you safely through the breathtaking scenery of the Brenta Dolomites, but also offer insights into the botanical, faunal, and geological aspects of the area.

The Route: "Patascoss - Pian degli Uccelli - Malga Ritorto" Traverse

The route will be a loop, and the itinerary will not follow a precise track but will be chosen at the discretion of the Alpine Guide, considering the snow and weather conditions, as well as the group's expectations and level of physical and technical preparation. Along the way, you'll encounter places of high naturalistic interest, including "Pian degli Uccelli" (Bird's Plain), a biotope consisting of spruce forests and wet meadows.

A Trail for Mountain Lovers

The target audience for this excursion are people with a predisposition for outdoor activities for whom no specific skills are required other than the ability to walk for a few hours on snow-covered terrain.

The difficulty level is generally easy, meaning no particular movement skills are required. However, the ability to be amazed and appreciate the surrounding territory is essential, whether under a heavy snowfall or on a beautiful sunny day.

Necessary Equipment

The necessary equipment for the excursion includes technical winter clothing, such as a padded jacket and waterproof pants, gloves, and a beanie. It's important to bring a 15/20 liter backpack containing snacks/dried fruit/energy bars, liquids, sunglasses, and space to store clothing. It is also essential to wear appropriate hiking boots for the cold temperatures: strictly high above the ankle, preferably waterproof. The guide will also provide the technical equipment for walking in the snow: snowshoes and poles.

For Photo Enthusiasts

The points of greatest photographic interest are the wide clearings in the forest where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Brenta Dolomites Group, a UNESCO World Heritage site. For flat expanses of pristine snow, you'll head towards Malga Ritorto, from which you can enjoy a wide view of the entire valley. At Malga Ritorto, it's possible to taste local products and learn about good practices.
